Durley made a sensational Hampshire League debut on Saturday - with a 17-year-old rookie striker leading the way.

David Hindle, who wasn't even a regular last season, deputised for the injured Martin Chamberlain and hit four goals as Durley trounced M & T Abridge 6-0.

Durley came into the Hampshire League after a mid-table finish in the Southampton League Premier Division, but now lead Division 2 after Simon King and Rob Tudgay added to Hundle's quartet against an Awbridge side weakened by a wedding.

Another young gun, teenager Wayne Finn, scored twice as RS Basingstoke marked their return to county football with a 2-0 win at Ludgershall.

But it wasn't a good day for strikers at the Bypass Ground where Romsey Town drew 2-2 with Netley Central Sports.

Romsey centre-forward Andy Norgate had to go to hospital with concussion and Netley's Scott Rice followed him to casualty with a serious ankle injury.

Romsey, with Norgate causing major problems, took a 2-0 lead through Simon Dea'th but Netley hit back in the second half through Ian Calder and Mike Mullins.

John Cook, one of their big new signings from Cowes, was on target for Ordnance Survey in a 4-0 victory over Broughton. Jimmy Chalk, Ryan Bath and Dave Egerton got the others.

Poole Town and VT (Vosper Thornycroft) are expected to be the two big guns in the Premier Division this season and they both opened up in style.

VT signed Jim Bedford from the Pirelli General fall-out to play at centre-half but, with Gary Male missing on Saturday, he played centre-forward and scored twice as VT hammered Brading 8-0 at Vicarage Lane.

Brading have lost a batch of players to Cowes and East Cowes Vics and were given a torrid first-half runaround with VT getting six before the break.

In the final count, Mick Spinney led the way with a hat-trick with Andy Pattison, Ben Tyrrell and John McFarland, another new signing from Hedge End, bringing up the eight.

Poole look a lot stronger than last season with several players coming down from various Wessex League clubs during the summer to aid their title assault.

One of the new boys, Lee Cornick from Portland, scored twice while Matthew White, who has rejoined the Dolphins from Brockenhurst, weighed in with another.

Karim Banssauda, who shared top billing on the scoresheet with two goals, is carrying on where he left off last season.

But Poole are bracing themselves to losing him because of a lengthy suspension.

Lock Heath 'keeper Matt Willsher hates the sight of Stockbridge.

He was sent off for the third time there after giving away a penalty which Stockbridge actually missed, much to the relief of replacement keeper Glen Stock.

Dan Jones gave Locks the lead but the home side equalised with a second penalty.
