As a genre, Capercaillie would generally be pigeonholed as folk and have certainly won awards in that genre, but perhaps World Music is a more accurate label.

With their roots in Argyll, they are one of Scotland's finest traditional bands and the first to have a Gaelic top 40 single in Coisich a Ruin.

The outstanding voice of Karen Matheson is the real gem in the innovative Capercaillie sound, which has been fresh for their nearly 20 year recording career.

The band have exported their traditional Gaelic sound around the world, having toured in 30 countries and notch up over a million world-wide sales. They have released eight award-winning albums and performed and appeared in in the movie Rob Roy.
