RESIDENTS in Southampton breathed new life into a neighbourhood centre yesterday when a new road was unveiled.
The City of Southampton Albion Band serenaded the official opening of a new road and car park leading to the Swaythling Neighbourhood Centre.
The £1m project - paid for by Southampton University - was unveiled by Southampton mayor Councillor Brian Parnell and his wife Mary.
The centre just off Broadlands Road, which has been waiting for a new road for eight years, hosts many community projects including the Night Stop service for the homeless. It includes a 36-space car park and a 312-space car park for the university.
Community lettings officer Josie Osman of Swaythling said: "We've wanted this road for the last eight years. This is a new beginning for the centre and we are really pleased."
