CHARITABLE pupils at Rookwood School have donated 135 boxes for the Rotary Shoebox Appeal.

Michael King from the Rotary Club of Andover visited the school to collect the boxes, which are being sent to children and young people in Albania and Ukraine.

Mr King said: "The children collected bits and pieces that they would like to give to children in other countries who are less fortunate.

"They put them together, decorated the boxes and gave £1 per box towards transport costs."

The Rotary appeal started in 1994 to send Christmas gifts to Romania and it has grown since then with boxes being sent to Moldova, Belarus, Ukraine, Albania, Kosovo and Turkey.

Other schools involved in the appeal, which has collected 350 boxes this year, were primary schools at Abbotts Ann, Amport, Shipton Bellinger, Smannell and Enham, St Mary Bourne and Hurst-bourne Tarrant, the infants and juniors at Knights Enham and Harrow Way.
