MIKE SMITH'S Long Lake on his Hordle Lakes Complex produced its best match weight when Christchurch angler Steve Mancey took a huge 107lb haul.

Fishing the pole at 11 metres and worm and corn, Mancey fished to a lily pad against the island on Long Lake to take three carp for 30lb in his first hour, plus a succession of others averaging 5lb throughout the match to score a comfortable victory.

Nigel Fitzgerald finished second with 57lb 13oz of smaller carp on the pole, corn and maggot from the monk peg on Tench Lake.

Davis Tackle veteran Terry Hiscock was third with 55lb 8oz of carp on the pole and worm from Long Lake.

Bournemouth Lodge's Chris Albiston finished fourth with 51lb 4oz of mixed method and pole caught carp from open water on Tench Lake with Mick Maidment fifth with 37lb of mixed carp and shoal fish from Willow.

Ricky Kajko topped the second round of the cormorants winter Series on Longbridge when taking 14 carp to 7lb on the method feeder and maggot from peg 30 in gale-force winds which made fishing uncomfortable.

Neil Tappin was second with 63lb of carp to 10lb on the method feeder and worm from peg 13.

Poingdestres' Pete Newman included a fabulous brace of ghosties weighing 35lb in his third-place bag of 54lb taken on the pole and worm from peg 3 with Gary Wright fourth with 35lb 8oz.

Others: A Cooper 35lb, R Yeo 31lb 8oz.

Terry Sargent topped the weights on the canal with a superb all-roach haul of 26lb 12oz.

Poingdestres' Pete Newman drew just two pegs away from his last victory at Greenridge Farm on peg 16 on canal two and once again secured victory in a tight finish with 25lb 8oz of small carp taken on the pole and meat.

Eastleigh's Paul White finished second with 23lb 8oz of carp from peg 20 on canal two, with Salisbury's match secretary Paul Barnard third with 22lb 3oz of small carp from peg 18.

Eastleigh's Mick Marsh finished fourth with 21lb 12oz from peg six on canal one.

Others: M Kenney 21lb, G Tappenden (Homestores Select) 20lb 8oz.

The Kennet and Avon Canal open at Pewsey saw a respectable return of weights with Ian Didcot (Van Den Eynde Essex) taking four good skimmers plus bits from the boats on long pole and pinkie over ground bait for 9lb 12oz to get the verdict.

Martin Kirk (Drennan Oxford) finished second with a cracking tench of 3lb 8oz five minutes before the end plus bits for 8lb 8oz also from the boats. Phil Stone (Browning) took two good bream plus skimmers from the Milkhouse stretch for third with 7lb 14oz but missed out on the £300 golden peg money when losing a good bream.

Shaun Stockley (Pewsey) was fourth with 7lb 3oz from the boats.

Sunday sees the third round of the Hants, Wilts & Dorset Winter League on the Dorset Stour at Gains Cross with Eastleigh looking to hold on to their narrow lead.

But Sunday's result could see some big surprises on the unpredictable Stour.
