THE latest victim of a gang of graffiti vandals in Overton wants police chiefs to reconsider their decision to close the village police station.

Marian Legg, aged 61, has suffered repeated attacks on her Milldown House home, with the louts spraying paint on her windows and front door on two separate nights last week.

The pensioner said she didn't know why they targeted her home and had been 'hurt' by the attacks.

Marian was involved in organising a petition two years ago when the police station was first closed and said there has always been strong support for a police presence in the village. She said: "When I did the petition, a lot of people wanted to have a police station in the village and since it closed things have got worse. It used to be a nice village, but it's changed."

There was a further scare this week when it was thought village bobby Pc Paul Green would no longer be able to use the station for his Saturday morning surgeries after the services were disconnected.

But a 'breakdown in communication' was blamed for the mistake and all the services were due to be reconnected yesterday.

Chief inspector Steve James, of Basingstoke police division, said: "Pc Green will continue to use that office as a surgery until such time as the force has made a decision on the recruitment and retention of police officers policy.

"Then we will look at what we do with the empty buildings that are currently held by the force.

"The policing is adequate for the area. They have always had one beat officer as well as coverage from section cars whichever police station the car is serving from, so they are still getting the same level of cover they have always had."

Pc Green reassured residents he will still be around in Overton.
