HIGH-Flying Ian Bond is the star attraction when Atherley stage a Denny Cup quarter-final on Saturday (midday).

The 28-year-old Devonian has burst into the world elite over the past 12 months winning two ranking tournaments before reaching the semi-finals of the World Indoor Singles Championship at Potters Leisure Resort, Norfolk, in a tournament watched by millions on television last week.

Bond arrives at Southampton with his colleagues from Exeter club Exonia to do battle with Kent-based Cyphers who themselves will field one of the game's celebrities in former world champion Andy Thomson.

Another quarter-final is also being held in Hampshire as Palmerston hosts the clash between East Dorset and Desborough, Maidenhead. On duty for the Christchurch club is Martyn Sekjer, the former Cyphers international who will be playing outdoors for Southampton Sports Centre this year.

Sunday at Atherley sees not only a regional round in the Champion of Champions singles tournament (two go through to the nationals) but the area final of the Egham Trophy between Atherley and Dolphin with two rinks at Hill Lane and two at Poole. Both events start at 10am.
