FORECASTERS have warned that more tornadoes similar to one that ripped through a Hampshire caravan site could be on their way.

Devastating 90mph gusts ripped through Gosport's Kingfisher Caravan Park, uprooting two of the mobile homes.

The Met Office has said that more could be on the way. National forecaster Martin Rowley said: "I wouldn't rule out more of these tornadoes hitting the south coast as it is an area that is prone to them. Because of the geography of the area these tornadoes are likely to crop up."

Today the clean-up operation was under way.

At the height of yesterday's gusts, one resident had a miraculous escape after his home was tossed around like a toy. He suffered cuts and bruises and three other neighbours were left shocked and bruised when their caravan was hit.

In seconds, the spinning wind roared in off the Solent, picked up Richard Brooks's residential caravan and threw it over a Ford Sierra to land on its roof. Lorry driver Mr Brooks had to be freed from the caravan by fire crews and other campers and was treated at Queen Alexandra Hospital, Cosham.

Park owner Stephen Sargeant said: "There is nothing you can do about an act of God. All we could do was clear up the mess and assess the damage."
