Darren Mew continued his strong build-up to the World Short-course Championships with a double victory during a high-class invitation meet in Lisburn, Ireland.

The Isle of Wight star won the 50m and 100m breaststroke - the two events he will swim at the Worlds in Athens on March 16-19 - adding a second in the 200m (2 minutes 17 seconds.

Mary Collett (City of Southampton) and Gary Docherty (Fareham Nomads) defend their World Biathle championships masters titles in Port Elizabeth, South Africa today (Saturday February 19). The pair won the inaugural world championships in the run-swim-run event in Monaco last year.

Richard O'Donnell, James Whelan and William Felgate each wound up their county preparations with double wins.

O'Donnell swam a pb 32.27 to take the under-14 50m butterfly and then added the 50m freestyle in29.41. Whelan took the under-12 backstroke and freestyle, a feat repeated by Felgate in the open category.

Peter Hall landed the under-14 backstroke in a pb 33.61 while Hannah Clegg took the open backstroke in a startling 29.75. Other Nomads' victories came from Ashley Chapman (open 50m breaststroke), Luke Halbauer (under-12 50m breaststroke), Sarah Warrener (under-14 50m backstroke) and lone B-team winner Ben Swindells (under-12 50m butterfly) in a 42.07pb.

City of Southampton - a disappointing fourth - used the gala to give swimmers valuable race practice in their second-string events before the Hampshire championships.
