Steve Forbes will be quids in if he's credited with both the early goals which pointed the Spitfires to a third successive league win.

There was no doubt he got Eastleigh's first - inside the opening 90 seconds.

But the jury's out on whether Forbes' potential second goal - just three minutes later - will go down to the midfielder or be debited an own-goal to Simon Ratcliffe.

Ironically, Eastleigh's third - midway through the second half - was also scored by Forbes ... but this time namesake Andy.

Manager Paul Doswell plans to check out the validity of Steve Forbes' potential second goal before he calculates the influential midfielder's Easter wage packet!

"We'll have to pay him extra if he's credited with two goals," Doswell laughed.

"Steve's first was an opportunist goal and the second goal came from a wicked cross in from outside on the right-hand side.

"We played some excellent stuff in the opening half-hour and, besides scoring twice, hit the crossbar and the post."

Eastleigh's canny ability to whip balls in behind defences from wide positions was too much for Dorchester early on.

The opening goal came from Ryan Ashford's free-kick.

Dorchester were caught flat-footed at the back as Steve Forbes got in front of the defence and turned the ball past former Cherries' youth keeper Nick Jones.

Three minutes later Eastleigh were two-up - Steve Forbes creating panic in the ranks with a penetrating 25-yard cross in from the right.

There appeared to be no communication between Jones and wing-back Ratcliffe as the keeper moved off his line to collect the cross.

But Ratcliffe moved inside the keeper's line and deflected Forbes' shoulder-height cross into his own net.

Eastleigh looked as though they might score every time they went forward - Danny Smith smacking a shot against the crossbar, ironically just as referee Simon Knapp awarded the visitors a free-kick from which Ashford struck the far upright.

Dorchester clawed themselves back into the game midway through the first period when former BAT man Jamie Brown - by some distance the Magpies' best player - got up above the Eastleigh defence to lay on a chance which Matt Groves converted.

But even though Ashford went off for treatment on a tight hamstring, Eastleigh maintained their shape and composure on a lively, bouncy pitch made more difficult by a swirling wind.

It wasn't until the last minute that Wayne Shaw had a shot of venom to counter.

By then, Eastleigh were 3-1 up courtesy of a splendidly taken third goal by Andy Forbes.

Dave Town broke up a Dorchester move inside his own half and created the opening for Smith to shred a perfect pass into the path of Forbes.

Jones came out to the edge of the penalty area, but Forbes sealed Eastleigh's success.

l Havant & Waterlooville ended a difficult week with a morale-boosting 3-1 victory at Weston-super-Mare.

Ironically, it was Tony Taggart - the man at the centre of the Conference's decision to fine the club £1,000 and deduct them them three points, pending appeal - who fired them on the road to glory.

Taggart, whose appearance against his old club Weymouth in January landed the Hawks in hot water, drove in a full-blooded volley from the edge of the area to put his side 1-0 up after just two minutes.

Top scorer Rocky Baptiste bagged Hawks' other two goals sandwiched around an horrific own goal by ex-Saints Academy defender Luke Byles whose overhit back pass looped over keeper Gareth Howells.

The result keeps Hawks in the fourth play-off spot, four points clear of Cambridge City going into tonight's home game against Carshalton (7.45).

Basingstoke Town remain too close to the relegation zone for comfort after crashing 1-0 at home to bottom club Maidenhead United.

Agonisingly for new Stoke manager Francis Vines, it was a last-gasp goal from substitute Ryan Ashe that sealed the points.
