GIVING people the chance to live healthier lives is one of the main aims for Labour's candidate for Fareham.

If elected James Carr is keen to focus on improving preventative medical care and getting residents to choose healthier lifestyles.

The 62-year-old dad-of-two is proud to be the Labour candidate for the borough having lived in Fareham since 1975, currently living with his wife in Locks Heath.

He is a biology teacher at Barton Peveril College in Eastleigh but before that worked at Fareham College for 25 years.

He was spurred to get into politics in the late 1980's when Thatcher was in power, when he felt that somebody needed to do something to make things better.

James, who was a borough councillor for four years, said: "Fareham is a lovely place to live and I want to ensure the residents benefit as much as they can.

"I am very much against packing lots of people into small urban spaces, I believe it is much better for people to have space and enjoy open, green areas, even if it does me expanding into some of the countryside.

"I want to maintain the vibrant economy in Fareham so residents can get educated, get good jobs and enjoy a healthy lifestyle."
