ANOTHER problem has been found with Marriotts Walk.

The £50m shopping centre only opened in October, and already things seem to be going wrong.

Now and again, our Letters page contains grumbles from residents about this shiny new shopping centre not living up to expectations.

Be it the parking, the pedestrian crossing, or shops.

This time, it is that the pavements have not been laid correctly, meaning that some of the slabs must be removed and put in again.

The development cost £50m to bring to Witney, and was hailed as a major draw for the town centre, ensuring that it would not fall by the wayside like some of its neighbouring market towns.

It was not as if there was not enough time and money to make this project a success.

And it is. Save for the minor aspects that have tarnished this massive development.

Perhaps if the small things were taken care of, all of the units may have been filled by now? We do not know.

But the pavement is not just an aesthetic problem.

As David Keep pointed out: “The pavement is diabolical to be honest. There are a couple of badly raised bits, which somebody will trip on eventually.”

Developers Simons Group has been asked by Oxfordshire County Council to re-do the pavement.

The developer is waiting for the thumbs up from the local authority to crack on with the work.

We can only hope that this essential work, which should never have come about in the first place, is sorted before anyone suffers a serious injury.
