TOGETHER they have each been crowned Flybe Local Heroes Award winners after Daily Echo readers cast their votes in thousands.

Every one of the victorious organisations from the three different competition categories of charity, education and sport will now take home £3,000 in cash and £4,000 in flights from Flybe.

The founders of the U-Support charity, Adam and Tracey Gregory, who give disabled children tickets to football games and cultural events, won the competition’s charity section.

Delighted Mr Gregory said: “This will make a massive difference and give us a greater opportunity to give disabled children the chance to go to football matches, concerts and the theatre.

“I am amazed and I can’t thank enough the people who took the time to vote for us. It’s made my day.”

Eastleigh Youth Trust, a charity that runs the Pavilion on the Park youth and community centre off Kingfisher Road and supports young people’s activities, won the education category.

Organisers will use the money to support its Spreading Our Wings project which aims to expand its expertise in helping local youths.

Chairman of trustees Jim Vaughan said: “I would like to thank everyone who voted for us and send my commiserations to the two losing finalists in our category.”

The Dynamo School of Gymnastics, based at Hamble Community Sports College, won the Flybe Local Heroes sports category.

Club organiser Debbie Richardson said: “This will make a huge difference to us allowing children to compete in competitions abroad even if they have not got the means.

“Its nice to know readers value what we are doing.”

Since the club’s creation in 1986 it has enabled thousands of youngsters to take part in the sport. The club is twinned with the famous Moscow Dynamo Gymnastics Club and for more than 20 years has been exchanging gymnasts between Southampton and Russia.

Other finalists were the Southampton branch of the Jubilee Sailing Trust, and Hampshire Search and Rescue, Lisa Osborn and her work with the Southampton ADHD community, Zoie Golding for her work Fuzzy Logic, City of Southampton Swimming Club and the Golden Ring Boxing Club in Millbrook.
