Kim Rose withdraws from Southampton Itchen election battle

Kim Rose Kim Rose

SOUTHAMPTON independent candidate Kim Rose, above, has abandoned his campaign after a little over a week and endorsed his Tory rival.

He is urging his followers in the Itchen constituency to vote for fellow Eurosceptic and “local man” Royston Smith.

Mr Rose, a former socialist and latterly UK Independence party candidate who attracted 1,623 votes in 2005, said he was won over by Conservative plans to give “more power to the people”.

He launched his campaign by attacking Gordon Brown for costing the country an estimated £7 billion by selling off the nation’s gold reserves at rock bottom prices a decade ago.

He has run a series of newspaper adverts urging voters to pick a candidate who will “serve the people rather than his own bank account” and “health warnings” over plans to add fluoride to water supplies in the city.

Mr Rose, a jeweller, claimed Labour Cabinet minister John Denham, Itchen MP since 1992, had become remote from local issues. “Labour has had a long time to change things and not a lot has been,” he said.

Mr Smith said: “He’s a well known local chap. I’m grateful for his endorsement.”

Mr Denham declined to comment on the switch.

Lib Dem candidate David Goodall said: “I don’t think it’s of any significance really”.

Any sign of your socialist candidates and their predicted surge in the polls yet Southy?

Why does the Echo report this type of rubbish.
.
Rose is nothing, his "followers" are non existant.
.
Why dont the Echo give me a section on their website to encourage my "followers" ( of which there must be thousands by now ) to slag off Smith, Moulton and anybody else and then shout my support for the Labour Party.
.
Or perhaps its the Echo's support for for the Tories, in particular Smith, that prevents them from doing so.

Being a jeweller, Mr Rose should have ample knowledge of the gold situation. For example, these so-called cash for gold websites are the result of the economic crisis. I believe that Mr Brown ws told from those above to sell the gold, as part of the drive in reducing the power of the nation-state.

it was to swop gold for bonds, the bonds have made us loads more money that the gold would off just sitting there doing nothing, to equal the amount that the bonds have earned this country gold would need to be at lest double the price at its best.
so it was a very good move at the time and the right one.

Bonds are just bundled debts, we've got plenty of those already.

and thats is why bonds have made more money for the uk than sitting on gold and waiting for the prices to up, and when they did go up at its peak it still could not bring in half has much has the bonds have done.

Come on Southy surely you remember that Kim Rose stood at a previous election as the representative of Arthur Scargill’s Socialist Labour Party. So is he not just one of your disillusioned socialists he was the candidate for Southampton Itchen in 1997 and got 628 votes or 1.2%. Or has Thatcher also wiped your memory?

How is the coming revolution when even your star candidates from a few years ago are now supporting the Conservative party?

For months you have been crying that we would see the rise of the CNWP but it has no candidates, even in your own area there is no candidate, when you could have represented the socialist ideals, instead you yourself have gone from saying you will not vote to supporting a candidate form another party.

You have no credibility.

Stay local -V- Southy

Neither has nominated a credible party, but if it comes to a streetfight, my vote goes to southy. SL has a very immature stance, I suspect previously bullied in the dormitory.
Don't worry staylocal, one day guns will be legal, then you can MAKE THOSE BIG BOYS PAY!!

Both candidates were at Bitterne Market last Wednesday. Royston was campaigning outside Natwest Bank with a bunch of teenage, spotty Tory Boys. Mr Rose was a couple of stalls away flogging dodgy looking gold. I caught them having a 'chat' and suspected something like this to be announced. Wouldn't trust any of them....

humm tim cutter TUSC / CNWP :-) do your home work boy, in total there 84 candidates standing around the country and are expecting at lest 2 of them to be voted into government. with luck there will be more. note the words that TUSC stands for. Trade Unions & Socialist Coalition, that give you some idea what is going on out there, some are standing under the TUSC banner while others are standing under there own party banner.
in my area your right there is no one standing thats why any of those that have not been voting in a long while that do decide to vote will be voting Liberals. i personally will not be voting.

he was never a star of the socialist party stay local, and i would not tke to much notice of him if i was you what he trying to do is get labour voters to vote tory con party. the socialist labour party is only one of two left groups that has not joined up with the CNWP

i have plenty of credibility so try again

I know one of the Tory boys, he is very highly regarded in Thornhill for his hard work as a councillor in the area. Don't judge everyone on appearances.

Alas like Southy your rhetoric is somewhat lacking, no I have not experienced dormitory life perhaps you would like to expand upon your experiences that leads you to this conclusion.

You are right in saying I have not nominated a credible party, for the past few years I have written “non of the above” on my ballot paper as I strongly believe in the right to vote but have been unimpressed by the options available.

Conversely Southy has been talking for many months of the socialist wave sweeping the county, but whenever asked for the information to back this up it is sadly lacking, this also applies to most of his posts (see the recent building collapse in Weston where Southy claims it is due to dredging in the Solent, yet ignores the mutli-agency impact assessment pre dredging and the complete lack of other physical evidence in Weston).

As for guns I have no interest in seeing them become more available to the public and have no idea where you got that impression, nor do I need to resort to upper case script to look impressive.

You catch on quick Walter. We are entitled to our own opinions. Hate to disappoint you but I don't do aliens or look out for them. Like you said, if you want to think about the world in your own way, that is entirely your right.

Really Southy? Considering gold prices have increased four-fold since that time, I don't think it was a good move at all. In fact, if you look back, he turned the gold into Euros. Look what has happened there? TRhe Euro exchange rate has achieved equal parity on occasions with Sterling, whilst your foes, the investment bankers have reaped the benefits. This gold would have gone up in value, not just sitting there doing nothing. Bit like you sitting in front of your computer, doing nothing other than making vacuous comments.

it was the bonds that the gold paid for not the euro, and it was the bonds that made more than twice the amount if they just sat on the gold. gold dont gain you interest money, where has the bonds do, and gold gaining 4 times the amount then those bonds have earned 8 times the amount in interest money alone. let alone what you will get on them if they was to be sold now, because the bonds have gain in great value to.
it was an all win situation all round and very good move done at the right time.
and you are getting it mix up with the sterling being link to the euro whitch happen about at the same time, two different moves.

personally I don't care who any of you vote for but please DON'T vote for Smith, he's a flipping liability as a Councillor let alone an MP!! sick of the Echo and it's bias.... the only Tory person who has impressed me is Jeremy Moulton, he's worked really hard and has been attending lots of local events and really does try to help people. However, as I don't like their national policies I won't be voting for him (sorry Jezza). I'm still waivering but it won't be for the Tories I'm afraid. I just don't believe DC is genuine and some of their policies stink. Do think the Guardian were right about Brown though! he should have stepped down. What's clear to me people is that a woman should be running this country but not of the Margaret Thatcher ilk! ;)
