THEY HAVE been dubbed guardian angels who keep watch over Friday night fun-seekers.
Now Eastleigh’s team of Street Pastors have six new recruits ready to spread their wings and help those trying to get home safely after a night out on the town.
This will bring the total number of Street Pastors to 24, allowing teams to start serving the town later at night for every two weeks out of four.
Steve Smallwood, co-ordinator, said: “There is a need for a calming presence, caring, listening and helping, in the early hours for those who have been out enjoying the facilities of our town.”
The church-initiative started in July 2009 and has been welcomed on the streets of Eastleigh, operating between 8.30pm and 12.30am.
Now they hope to be able to stay out until 2.30am on some nights, offering vulnerable partygoers a listening ear or even flip-flops for the remainder of their journey.
