ONE of the world’s most luxurious cruise ships arrived in Southampton today.

Passengers on board the new Silver Spirit do not need to worry about unpacking, making reservations for dinner, or arranging trips ashore – their very own butler will take care of everything.

Part of the prestigious fleet of ships operated by Silversea Cruises, the sumptuous vessel is making its first call to Southampton as part of its maiden season of voyages.

Just 540 guests are looked after by 376 officers and crew in 270 elegant ocean-view suites, of which 95 per cent feature private, teak balconies, each staffed by a 24-hour dedicated butler.

There is a choice of six dining venues, an 8,300 sq ft spa, outdoor swimming pool, four whirlpools, beauty salon and a state-of-the-art fitness centre as well as a library, three shops, a casino, an observation lounge and a cognac and cigar lounge.

Silver Spirit was due to arrive at the city’s Eastern Docks overnight before sailing for Barcelona, for the start of a programme of Mediterranean voyages, at 5pm today.

Southampton will see Silver Spirit again in May 2011 when the ship concludes its 119-day inaugural world cruise, with fares starting at £39,503 per person, which begins in Los Angeles next January.
