TOGETHER these fund-raising cyclists cycled from Southampton to London in aid of the Daily Echo-backed Red & White Appeal.

The 90-mile challenge was organised by Tony Wiskin, 31, after his wife Emma was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia just nine days after giving birth to baby Nathaniel.

Now, nine months on, 30-year-old Emma is back at the family’s Highfield home thanks to the care of medical staff at Southampton General Hospital’s specialist haematology unit and a lifesaving |bone marrow transplant from |sister Beccy.

She was among those cheering on Tony, a paediatrician at Southamp-ton General, and 12 friends who set off from Highfield C of E Church to Waterloo Railway Station.

Together they have so far raised £4,260 towards Southampton Hospital Charity’s Red & White Appeal for a new £2.2m dedicated day case unit at the city’s General Hospital for blood cancer patients.

Emma, who is a doctor at Winchester’s Royal Hampshire County Hospital and who is still undergoing follow-up treatment, said: “The care I received was amazing both from a physical and a mental point of view.

“The new day unit will make a real difference to haematology patients.”
