A MAJOR shake up of the management structure at Southampton General and Princess Anne Hospitals is to be introduced today.
It is the first stage of bosses’ attempts to save £30m and to cut the workforce by 400 posts this year as part of a £100m cost cutting drive.
From today the number of operating divisions within Southampton University Hospitals NHS Trust, each covering different areas such as surgery, will be streamlined from five to four saving an estimated £500,000.
Meanwhile managers, clerical and admin staff working in the trust’s headquarters whose jobs have been made redundant will find out during the next two weeks whether they can be redeployed elsewhere.
Bosses launched a 30-day consultation to axe up to 99 posts in these areas back in May.
Jayne Hayward, director of organisational development, said the trust was now “actively working” to seek redeployment for these people within the NHS.
The trust says it has not recruited any managers or administration staff since April 1, so that posts can be kept for those who need to be redeployed.
Health chiefs say the cuts are being made to protect frontline services in the face of rising costs and a freeze in the trust’s £500m annual income.
