SKY Ride Southampton organisers are searching for volunteers and businesses to help make the day a success.

Thousands of cyclists are set to take to the streets on Sunday July 25 when the free, mass-participation event is held in Southampton for the first time.

City centre streets will be cleared of traffic for the event, allowing riders of all ages and abilities to explore the city on two wheels.

A 10km route has been marked out and volunteers will be needed to help staff it, assist cyclists on the day and help make the event enjoyable for all taking part.

Experience is not required and you don’t even need to know how to ride a bike.

Businesses are also being urged to support the event and also promote their services by setting up a stand in the Sky Ride event village.

That will be set up in Hoglands Park.

Councillor John Hannides, the City Council’s Cabinet member for leisure, culture and heritage, said: “We want residents and local businesses to get involved to make this a really special event and I’d urge everyone to sign up if they can.”

Volunteers should contact Southampton City Council’s sports development officer Eleanor Wilde on 023 8083 2694 or email eleanor.wilde@|southampton.gov.uk.

Businesses should contact Clare Blay on 023 8083 2906 to discover how they can be a part of Sky Ride.
