A father and son are taking part in a 60-mile charity kayak challenge from Southampton to Brighton.
The lengthy paddle will aim to raise £1,000 for the Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice, in Farnham, where close friend Holly Webber is currently fighting cancer.
Local actor Gilbert Taylor, 21, and his dad Michael Taylor, 51, a telecoms field engineer, set off from the Woolston side of the Itchen Bridge yesterday.
A westward route will see them drift down Southampton Water, past Portsmouth Harbour and along the south coast to Brighton pier.
Gilbert and Michael hope to get to Brighton pier by 2pm today, where a small gathering of friends are set to cheer them in as they tackle the final stages.

Could somebody kindly explain to me how someone who is travelling by canoe from Southampton, past Portsmouth and on to Brighton is moving in a westward direction?

wow some people over analyse stories abit. I'm sure any creatin on here could understand when you stand looking out at the sea in southampton by the coast, to the left is brighton (so west?).
Bit sad how people focused on that, rather than the actual story of two men doing something positive for charity. Supose losers on here believe they are journalists in their small little failure of a life. Get real and keep to commenting on sites like hmv or itune where you purchased the new x factor c.d
