A GAS engineer has been convicted of attacking a Good Samaritan who helped lock up his thug brother.
Jurors took three hours and 39 minutes to unanimously find Luke Pritchard guilty of battering Jody Miles in a Southampton pub.
The court earlier heard how 22-yearold Pritchard, of Hammonds Green, Totton, punched Mr Miles and tried to headbutt him.
This came after Mr Miles gave key evidence leading to the conviction of his teenage brother, Stephen Pritchard, jailed for six and half years for the manslaughter of an Indian seaman.
It emerged that Luke Pritchard was upset at Mr Miles’ remarks about his brother and the gang who killed Gregory Fernandes that likened them to a pack of “wild animals”.
The 32-year-old sailor from Goa and his shipmate had been drinking soft drinks at the Falcon Hotel in October 2007 when they left to return to their ship docked in Fawley refinery.
But the pair were set upon by a gang of racist youths who chased them down the road before kicking and punching them.
At this point Mr Miles was passing by and rescued the men from the violent mob.
He took Mr Fernandes back to the ship but the injured sailor collapsed at the dock gate as he tried to sign in. An inquest found he had been “frightened to death”.
Mr Miles received a commendation and £250 from a judge as well as receiving an Association of Chief Police Officers’ public bravery award.
Months later Luke Pritchard spotted Mr Miles in the Varsity pub, in London Road, Southampton.
Pritchard began glaring at Mr Miles and barged him in the bar room on December 2, which was packed out with football fans watching the Carling Cup q u a r t e r - final game b e t w e e n Manchester City and Arsenal.
The court heard how Pritchard confronted Mr Miles, who was then punched and grabbed two or three times, leaving him with bruising around his eyes and cheekbone.
The jurors, however, returned a not guilty verdict for the charge of threatening to take revenge.
Pritchard will be sentenced on Friday, August 20.

I did notice the extended use of exclamation marks. Is there a new rule of grammar that I haven’t heard about? The punctuation & spelling seem to be the average for the education that we received under the Labour Government.
I think that ‘The Edge of Reason’ gave an accurate riposte to his/her point. However, I would like to point out that ‘nice’ families don’t usually have a son put away for frightening someone to death or then have another son found guilty of assault.
