More than 20,000 NHS dentist places available in Hampshire

DENTISTS in Hampshire now have more than 20,000 NHS dental places available – just three years after desperate patients were queueing for hours to secure cheaper care.

In a remarkable turnaround, thousands of families can now look forward to NHS treatment after it was revealed 40 practices are accepting patients.

The sudden availability of care comes months after a helpline recorded 2,500 patients scrambling for just 100 spaces at a new NHS dentist in the New Forest.

And it represents a stark contrast to 2007, when more than 100 people queued in the streets in Titchfield Common to register at another new surgery.

It is thought a “perception lag” may be behind the lack of take up on the NHS availability – a term used to explain how patients may have simply assumed there was no NHS treatment on offer.

Health chiefs say a huge amount of investment has been ploughed into providing the spaces over the last three to four years.

Natalie Jones, lead commissioning manager of primary care dental services at NHS Hampshire, said: “We know that dental healthcare is a priority for Hampshire residents, and are proud of our continued efforts to increase the amount of NHS dental care available in the county.

This, of course, would be Labour putting everything the poor people needed into place so that we will remember them in the next General Election OR what makes me sick is they hear we have the worse teeth in the world and, hopefully, fluoride wont be put into our water, did it not occur to them it was the lack of dentists that caused it. Now we will see if parents take upon themselves to take their kids and themselves or are they unable to think for themselves. OR, wait for it: are they hoping to do an open ended introduction in charging a nominal price for their 'walk ins' for poor ordinary folk? and nab a bit from the paying dentists. See how young they are and have they just come out of school?

Something else that the Govt. shouldn't be paying for!

Again, I would like to see you pay for all of your dental treatment when you are in severe pain and are struggling to pay your household bills! The NHS is a total “Healthcare insurance policy” that every tax payer pays in to (those who do not earn enough do not contribute) and everyone is entitled to “claim”. The cost of this “insurance policy” is much less to each individual person than having a private healthcare policy!

Something isn't quite right with all this. In SO16 (and less than 200 metres from SGH) there are a couple of dentists with signs stating they are taking on NHS patients.
.
This has been the case for over 2 years now. So why are all these people who apparantly can't get one not flocking to these places? I bet if we paid for free home visits by a dentist we would still have a significant number who would claim it didn't meet their needs.

A dentist. A dentist.
