STAFF at Southampton's WestQuay shopping centre were evacuated this afternoon after reports of smoke in a lift shaft.
Firefighters from St Mary's station were called to offices at the centre off Portland Terrace.
Workers returned to work after firefighters assessed the lift. It is thought the smoke was caused by overheating electrics.
No customers were affected. An investigation has been launched by centre managers.
