Ride and Stride to county’s churches

HAMPSHIRE and the Islands Historic Churches Trust is running its largest annual fundraiser next month.

Ride and Stride is a charity event, in which cyclists and walkers are sponsored to visit as many churches in the area as possible over the day.

In 2009 the whole event raised just over £42,000 for churches across the area and the trust awarded nearly £30,000 in grants.

This year however, treble the number of sites have signed up, with 300 of the chapels and churches of Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, and the New Forest on the list.

In addition, supporters can click <&bh"http://www.hampshirehistoricchurches.org.uk/JustGiving.php">hampshirehistoricchurches.org.uk/JustGiving.php<&eh> to do their bit for the charity from the comfort of their own homes.

Organiser Sarah Miller hopes it will help to build on the success of last year.

She said “This is a perfect way of harnessing new technology to preserve our heritage. Many people prefer to donate online using a card so we’ve made it easy for them.”

Ride and Stride takes place on September 11. For more information go to hampshirehistoricchurches.
