A SOUTHAMPTON man told police in a 999 call how his former partner had punched him in the face and given him a black eye.
But David Yates had lied, which led to Victoria Alders being arrested and held for about an hour before being released, prosecutor Siobhan Linsley told Southampton Crown Court.
In reality, the blow had been self inflicted and almost two months later Yates confessed what he had done.
Yates, 28, of Lodge Road, Southampton, received a sixmonth suspended jail sentence with a 180-hour community work order after admitting attempting to pervert the course of justice.
“It was an appalling waste of police time,” said Recorder Susan Evans QC who heard the pair had since been reconciled.
