A hunt is on for a Southampton man who has gone missing after he was injected with a life-threatening disease.

Nurse Matthew Lloyd has not returned for vital treatment and could be in serious danger, say police.

The Daily Echo understands that Mr Lloyd, 35, was injected with malaria as part of a London-based clinical trial.

He should have reported to Oxford on Thursday for further treatment but has not been seen for several days.

Doctors and nurses are often invited to become involved in a number of clinical trials for new drugs and treatments.

Mr Lloyd, of Hatherley Mansions, Shirley Road, Shirley, is known to have connections with Cornwall and the Avon and Somerset area.

He is described as white with short brown hair, of medium build and with a swarthy complexion.

Anyone with any information about Matthew’s whereabouts is asked to call the duty sergeant at Shirley Police Station on 101 or if calling from outside Hampshire on 0845 045 4545.
