PIONEERING disabled sailor Geoff Holt brought his own special award when he came to hand out the prizes to a Hampshire school.

Geoff, who received his MBE medal from the Queen on Tuesday, atttended the award ceremony at the Romsey School.

The yachtsman, who was paralysed following a swimming accident when he was 18, said that although he had conquered the Atlantic he still believed his 109-day round-Britain voyage in 2007 was his greatest achievement.

He became the first quadriplegic to complete the 1,500 mile circumnavigation of Britain.

Geoff told the youngsters present that they would face problems in their lives but they should not give up and added: "Next time I come back I will have sailed around the world - that's my next project!"

The school presented £250 to Geoff for the charity RYA Sailability.

Earlier Lady Brabourne presented the GCSE's certificates to the class of 2010.

Head Garteh Bell had said they were a record-breaking year with 81 per cent achieving five or more A* to C-grades and 100 per cent achieving more than five passes.

The last year had also seen the school achieve a clutch of honours, said the head, including the Gold Artsmark, the Inclusion Mark, an award for ITC Excellence.
