COUNCIL tax will go down for people living in Eastleigh.

The council's part of bills will drop by 77p from £134.74 to £133.96 for the average band D property.

With increased money charged by the parishes for these services the average household will be 4p better off – although some will end up paying more depending on which parish the property is in.

It is thought the Hampshire Constabulary, Hampshire Fire and Rescue and Hampshire County Council will also freeze the amount they take.

Leader Keith House said: “Council tax hits those on low incomes and elderly people on fixed incomes, it is an unfair tax.

“That’s why we have a policy commitment to keep it low.

“The reason we are able to do this is efficiency, efficiency, efficiency and an asset management plan that gives us an income on properties greater than our borrowing.”
