HE may have only one eye, but he was a true star to an audience of millions at the world’s most prestigious dog show.
For Dudley the dexterous rescue dog proved on Saturday that his disability would not stand in the way of him fetching an official Crufts rosette.
The irrepressible six-year-old pug-Lhasa apso cross bounded into the NEC Birmingham show ring for a dazzling display in the rescue dog agility contest.
Owner Lara Alford, from Southampton, said: “It was one of the fastest rounds Dudley’s ever done.
“He was definitely the crowd’s favourite and got a huge cheer as he ran round.
“Over the last few days he has had so many admirers – he’s probably been one of the most photographed dogs at Crufts this year.”
Dudley had his right eye removed as a puppy because of an infection. But aged just 14 months his owners left him at the Blue Cross animal adoption shelter in West End.
However, the cute and fluffy mutt soon found a home in Lara’s heart and she took him under her wing.
Instantly she noticed his agility and began practising courses, becoming his second eye by sticking on the left side so he can see her all the time.
