The MEP for the South East is hoping to persuade the Government to fill a funding gap for vaccinating children in some of the world’s poorest countries.
MEP Sharon Bowles has written to International Development Secretary Andrew Mitchell MP asking him to promote further funding to the GAVI Alliance.
The organisation provides vaccinations against deadly diseases for children in developing countries.
Due to a rise in demand for vaccines, GAVI’s current funding shortfall is $3.7bn for the period 2011-2015.
But with full funding GAVI can immunise more than 243 million children in the world’s poorest countries.
