THEY are the beating heart of the economy.

An essential ingredient in tough times and an inspiration in good times.

One firm is going to be recognised for embodying these qualities with a Growth business of the Year gong at the South Coast Business Awards, organised by the Daily Echo and Business Southampton.

The award winner will have to convince judges they have demonstrated supportable and consistent growth with cash flow or earnings increasing over the last two years and expected to continue.

Smith & Williamson are sponsoring this prestigious award. Boss Richard Green, of the accountancy and financial services group, said: “Growth businesses are the lifeblood of a recovering economy, bringing jobs and revenues to the south coast. That is why we are proud to be sponsoring the Growth Business of the Year category.

“Rarely has the word growth been so important in our professional lives. Indeed the chancellor recently unveiled a package of incentives as part of a nationwide strategy to create growth and jobs in the wake of the severest economic downturn since the Second World War.

“Whilst business leaders express concern about an anaemic recovery, some local companies are doing well, with strong trading, higher turnovers and enhanced profits. These businesses are achieving good results despite economic headwinds. It is right that their hard work is recognised through awards such as these.”

Other categotries for awards include corporate social responsibility, customer service and innovation.

Entries must be in by April 21. The winners will be announced at a ceremony in Southampton on July 15.
