A YOUNG Hampshire stuntman left paralysed in a horror accident at a theme park is to be moved closer to his family in Southampton.

Jay Young, 22, has been in hospital in Oxford since severely damaging his spinal cord when a backflip routine went wrong during rehearsal for a show at Legoland Windsor.

Family and friends have been facing lengthy commutes to be by the former Bitterne Park School and Taunton’s College student’s hospital bedside for more than a fortnight.

Jay was left unable to move from the neck down when he landed on his head after a fall.

Doctors at Oxford’s John Radcliffe Hospital have warned him he may never walk again.

Jay, from West End, has now been given a place at Southampton General Hospital.

His older brother Lewis Young, who also works as a stuntman, said: “He’s been accepted by the hospital, so they’re just waiting for a bed now. That could take a few days or it could be a month, but that’ll be good for him.

“He’s a lot better in his mind, but there’s still no improvement in his movement yet.

“I think it’s going to be a few weeks before the swelling goes down enough for the doctors to know exactly what the damage is.

“He’s got an air of acceptance about it.

He knows it’s not going to be overnight, he knows it’s going to be years, but he’s thinking in the right way and we’re just holding onto the hope of so many stories of miracles and people who have learnt to walk again.”

As reported by the Daily Echo, friends from Winchester City Football Club paid tribute to Jay, who used to play for Brockenhurst and Totton, during a game the weekend after it happened, revealing shirts carrying the message “Pray for Jay” as part of a goal celebration.
