MAY I remind readers that it was local MP Desmond Swayne who suggested car parking charges at Forestry Commission controlled sites, when he wanted to package up the Forest land, to be sold off.

The Forestry Commission have no intention of introducing charges and, as we all witnessed, the Conservatives have backed down on any sale, for the time-being.

However it is an issue which may come back to haunt us, if there is no opposition within Government.

To other people who have written that decisions about the Forest should be taken by those who live within it. Well, I was born and bred here and my family connection to Burley and the Forest date back centuries. But I am I listened to?

Personally, I feel parking meters at Forestry Commission car parks would be impossible to police.

That is, they would be broken into. Plus you would have to pay someone to collect the monies. And if there is not someone going around checking the parking tickets, word would get about, and no one would pay anyway.

If, there has to be a fee, then add it to the parking clock cost and at the exiting meters, to be shared between the Forestry Commission and District Council.
