Plans for Tesco supermarket in Kinson to go on display

First published in News

MP Conor Burns says Tesco will be holding a public exhibition of plans for a new supermarket in Bournemouth on Saturday.

The store wants to knock down the shops by Millhams Road and build over them.

Developer Hampton Hill Richmond has been buying out the shop leases.

Mr Burns, MP for Bournemouth West, said the exhibition will take place from noon until 3pm at Kinson Community Centre in Pelhams Park.

The plans will also be up for discussion at the North Bournemouth Area Forum meeting, which takes places at the community centre from 11.30am.

Mr Burns has been trying to find ways of saving The Royal Oak Pub, which is outside the shops, and is also marked for demolition, after receiving more than 600 letters.

He said: “While appearing to be very sympathetic to the issue, the developers were fairly resilient in their view that it would be nigh impossible to develop a profitable site while incorporating The Royal Oak.”

He added: “Overall, I welcome the plans for a Tesco which will be a boost to the north of our town. But if The Royal Oak closes that would be a shame.”

Did Conor Burns not say in his news letter out yesterday that he would do all he can to support the Royal Oak. Yet in this story he only repeats the that he supports the Tesco plans.
.
What has to be taken into consideration is that their are other pubs within walking distance of where the Royal Oak is, as well as a well established Social Club. It will be sad to see it go, but this is what they call improvements within a greater area.

I contacted the council who passed me on to the Developer Hampton Hill Richmond who I have phoned on several occasions and left contact details to find out more about this development. The plans were supposed to be on veiw (according to the Echo) about a month ago. I have never had a call back. This for them is pure profit and they have no interest in the local community. Also it is of interest that if you google this company nothing comes up.

Do Tesco need planning permission then? Or is it "special planning permission" in the form of a stuffed envelope slid into a councillors pocket?

Is this not just a career opportunist MP advertising his master (Tory financial backer Tesco) Who takes this bull seriously?

Do some work for your local constituents not use the local press to keep some global company on track.

We pay for your breakfast tomorrow, your free lunch and your drinks at night, but I wonder what Tesco offer? We (in the Borough you were voted to represent) pay for you and these obvious conflicts in our community, remember that and learn some decency. People voted you in so do the work or be a fraud, it is not too late.

Why the need for another Tesco on that road? There's already a Tesco Express in Northbourne, so what's going to happen to that?

If you looked at your local plan then you would know that this site has been designated for redevelopment as a supermarket and car park for the last 10 years, it was only ever going to be developed by one of the big 3/4 and I'm guessing its only become viable more recently since the drop in land values

I believe another Tesco should be resisted because they are misusing their dominant position in the retail trade - prices are high yet the quality is now on a par with Asda - I'm amazed people still shop there but I guess it's just habit. Aldi doesn't have the same choice of products but the quality is higher and it's usually a lot cheaper.
