SAINTS star Dan Seaborne has left hospital for the first time since being discovered lying unconscious outside a Southampton nightclub.

The defender has spent more than a week receiving treatment for serious head injuries after an incident near Junk on London Road.

Mr Seaborne, 24, was initially classified as having suffered “life-threatening” injuries, but responded well to doctors in the Wessex Neurological Unit at Southampton General Hospital and the severity of his condition was quickly downgraded.

He remained in intensive care until Monday, but was well enough to be moved to another hospital on Tuesday to help “aid his recuperation”.

Speaking after Saints 3-2 Championship win over Nottingham Forest at St Mary's boss Nigel Adkins said today the player has now been allowed home.

He said: “We’ve got a great update on Dan Seaborne, he’s actually gone out of hospital today.

“That’s really pleasing, although he’s still got a fair way to go. It’s one step at a time and he’s come out of hospital, which is really good."

Police arrested two men following the incident at Junk in the early hours of Friday, September 2.

A 29-year-old Southampton man was later told he would face no further action, but a 35-year-old, also from the city, has been released on bail, pending further inquiries.

It is understood that Mr Seaborne, who signed for the club from Exeter City in January last year, had been inside the club with friends earlier in the evening and an argument took place.

He was asked to leave, but the row then escalated outside and police were called to the scene at around 2.51am.

Messages of support have flooded in from fans since the incident, with more than 5,500 people signing up to a Facebook page called Get Well Soon Dan Seaborne.

Mr Adkins was quoted on the club’s official site as saying he had been delighted with the support for the centre back.

He said: "I think it has been fantastic, and it underlines that we have a Southampton family here where everyone wants to look after each other. It has been overwhelming really how good the support has been for Dan."
