A MAN is lucky to be alive after plunging from a cruise ship that left Southampton, wearing just his underpants.
A major rescue operation was launched in the middle of the Atlantic after he fell overboard from the Ventura, which left the city last week.
Passengers onboard the P&O Cruise liner were heading to the Caribbean when they were woken in the early hours of Friday morning as horns were sounded and lifeboats were launched.
The man, believed to be aged between 30 and 50-years-old, was spotted by passengers and he was hauled aboard wearing nothing but his underpants.
A spokesperson from P&O would not say if the man was a crew member but said he was “stable” in the ship's medical centre.

IronLady2010 wrote:True. I was going to go on a cruise until they told me I would have to wear a shell suit. Maybe it's got something to do with the possibility of cruises starting from Liverpool.
Before anyone judges the man on jumping into the water in his underpants. Remember Shell suits come off easily! It could have happened during the rescue!

Other news feeds suggest that the man was a passenger.
Incident occurred apx 05.30 local time on Friday morning.
Passengers reported being woken by a severe lurch of the vessel and horn being sounded. (lurch was probably result of the crash stop rather than the reason for the man going over the side).
Suggestions have been made that he was on deck or a balcony for a smoko - It's a non smoking ship apparently.
.
The Ventura (Registered in Hamilton) is currently mid Atlantic heading West to the Caribbean .

So did he leave Southampton just wearing his underpants?

I am not sure whether she has azipods, which may make turning and stopping a little easier.

When you get the message 'Internal Server Error' don't try again.
Open another tab on your browser, navigate to the same page and check to see if your post is there - chances are that it will be.
Then just close the original tab and continue.
If you don't have tabbed browsing then you just open a new window and do the same thing.
It works for me!

You'd think The Echo would have solved this duplicate post issue, what with all the awards they brag to have won!
Yet we still await a spell check, decent honest reporting, weekend reporting etc
Yet some poor man was rescued in his Y fronts.
