Passenger fell from P&O's Ventura after sailing from Southampton

Ventura in Southampton Ventura in Southampton

A MAN is lucky to be alive after plunging from a cruise ship that left Southampton, wearing just his underpants.

A major rescue operation was launched in the middle of the Atlantic after he fell overboard from the Ventura, which left the city last week.

Passengers onboard the P&O Cruise liner were heading to the Caribbean when they were woken in the early hours of Friday morning as horns were sounded and lifeboats were launched.

The man, believed to be aged between 30 and 50-years-old, was spotted by passengers and he was hauled aboard wearing nothing but his underpants.

A spokesperson from P&O would not say if the man was a crew member but said he was “stable” in the ship's medical centre.

Before anyone judges the man on jumping into the water in his underpants. Remember Shell suits come off easily! It could have happened during the rescue!

True. I was going to go on a cruise until they told me I would have to wear a shell suit. Maybe it's got something to do with the possibility of cruises starting from Liverpool.
Maybe because of Cunard removing Southampton from it's ships?
What time of day/night?
was he drunk? or was he suicidal?
please Echo give us the whole story

Other news feeds suggest that the man was a passenger.
Incident occurred apx 05.30 local time on Friday morning.
Passengers reported being woken by a severe lurch of the vessel and horn being sounded. (lurch was probably result of the crash stop rather than the reason for the man going over the side).
Suggestions have been made that he was on deck or a balcony for a smoko - It's a non smoking ship apparently.
.
The Ventura (Registered in Hamilton) is currently mid Atlantic heading West to the Caribbean .

The lurch was caused by the officer of the watch executing a 'Williamson Turn' to put the ship back on a reciprical course to return to the line that the vessel was on when the passenger went overboard.

That would have been my first thought, except that Passengers have reported that the lifeboats, and presumably safety boat, picked up the casualty off the stern.
I am not sure whether she has azipods, which may make turning and stopping a little easier.

You should be very careful showing such an interest in men just in their underpants lol. We'll be reading about you in the Echo soon.

When you get the message 'Internal Server Error' don't try again.
Open another tab on your browser, navigate to the same page and check to see if your post is there - chances are that it will be.
Then just close the original tab and continue.
If you don't have tabbed browsing then you just open a new window and do the same thing.
It works for me!

The mention of Azipods is bound to get someone frothing at the mouth about rising unemployment being felt by tugboat crews.

Many thanks old bill. If I'd checked back sooner I could have read your post and saved myself half an hour trying it out for myself lol.

You'd think The Echo would have solved this duplicate post issue, what with all the awards they brag to have won!

Yet we still await a spell check, decent honest reporting, weekend reporting etc

Yet some poor man was rescued in his Y fronts.

Do you have an inside source of information or are you just hinting at your age? He could have been wearing a mankini. It would go better with the shell suit.

Ventura isn't equipped with Azipods, she has twin propellers fixed to propulsive electric motors.

Oh also she isnt a non-smoking ship, but you are required to be outside to smoke.
