THEY’RE young, good looking and already a hit with screaming teenage girls.

New Basingstoke-based boy-band Concept, who are all 17-year-old Queen Mary’s College students, had to be escorted out by security at one of their gigs as fans tried to mob them following a performance at a Christmas lights switch on in Uxbridge.

But the five lads – Karim Newton, Ben Selley, Matt Goodenough, Scott Dicks and Nathan Gittens – are adamant their popularity has nothing to do with the fact one member is related to One Direction’s Harry Styles.

Ben is the cousin of the curly-haired cutie, who rose to fame after the group came third on The X Factor last year, and is now a firm favourite with school girls across the country.

Ben, from Tadley, hopes Concept will gain recognition for their own talent – but he admits that Harry’s success has inspired him.

He said: “When I went to see him on The X Factor I thought I would never be able to do that. But I sat in my room playing guitar and getting better, and then realising I can sing.

“I don’t really like to use Harry as in ‘look, I’m Harry Styles’ cousin, come and watch my band.’ I want my own success. But One Direction do inspire me. I still haven’t got over how famous they are.”

Concept, who are managed by Sam Bennett of SEB Collective, who has worked with acts such as Jessie J, JLS and Mollie from The Saturdays, released their first single 7teen on December 11 after forming in August this year. They describe their music as a mixture of pop and motown.

Nathan, from Buckskin, said: “It’s quite poppy but also retro. It’s a mixture. We use an acoustic guitar and that’s something that sets us apart from other boy-bands.”

The lads have already performed their debut single at various gigs including a charity event at the Hilton Basingstoke hotel and supporting Britain’s Got Talent winner Ronan Parks in Uxbridge, as well as doing private gigs for fans at their homes.
