FEWER diabetics are dying unnecessarily in Hampshire compared to most parts of the country.

Latest figures release show the mortality rates for NHS Hampshire is significantly below the average for England, making it one of the 15 primary care trusts with the lowest death rate among patients with type 2 diabetes.

Dr Ruth Milton, director of public health for NHS Hampshire, said: “We are encouraged to see that our mortality rates for diabetes are lower than average.

“We are working closely with local GPs and clinicians to ensure that our diabetes services are meeting the needs of our patients.

“The figures published show that we’re on the right track, but we will continue to strive to develop local services and offer our patients the best possible care.”
