REGIONAL bus firm Bluestar is launching a new smartcard for discounted weekly and monthly travel on its network.
The new card, similar to the Oyster card in London, will enable holders to board any service on the Bluestar network in the Southampton, Eastleigh and Winchester region.
The Bluestar “key” card, available to buy and top up online, will also allow travel on Wilts & Dorset and Southern Vectis buses.
Andrew Wickham, managing director for the Go Ahead Group of bus and coach companies in the south, said: “We know that the key card has proved popular where it has been launched in other cities by Go Ahead Group as the electronic card replaces the paper versions and can be topped up on line.”
It is hoped that fewer cash transactions will help to speed up boarding times and reduce delays at busy bus stops.
