Hampshire’s latest batch of street pastor recruits are beginning their training to help keep people safe in the night-time economy.
Southampton Street Pastors have been sharing their wisdom and showing the ropes to the volunteers helping to make the streets of Winchester a safer place.
Twenty new volunteers have signed to cover Thursday nights from April, as part of a scheme being backed by 14 churches across the cathedral city.
They are being trained at the Methodist Church in St James Road in Southampton, for the role in offering help, advice and support to vulnerable people, and those who are a “little worse for wear” after a night out.
Each pastor will be equipped with water to help those with dehydration and tissues for those who need to freshen up.
For the past seven months pastors have been patrolling Winchester on Friday and Saturday nights, offering valuable help and advice to anyone in distress.
