THREE members of the same family took the plunge off the side of Southampton General Hospital.
Sue Bulger, 72, from Crawley, Winchester, managed to convince her two sons Rupert, 43, and Felix, 41, and her granddaughter, Emily, 14, to take part in an abseil in aid of children’s cancer charity CLIC Sargent.
The group were all raising money for the Daily Echo-backed Every Step Appeal – which is aiming to collect £40,000 in the next year.
Sue, who is the chair of the south Hampshire fundraising branch, said: “I was the one that roped everyone into it – roped being the right word.
“I think the good thing about this charity is you know where the money’s going – it’s such a good cause.”
A total of 100 fundraisers stepped off the edge in the sponsored abseil, which saw them descend 60ft from the top of the hospital’s west wing.
Fundraising manager Emily Jenkins said: “It’s amazing, so many people getting involved like this.
“We did the same in 2010 with 60 people and raised £18,500, so we’re hoping for a lot more this time around.”
