ONE of the main roads was closed for nearly an hour today after a car burst into flames.
The fire started in the Citroen C3 at around 10am.
It happened in St Cross Road in Winchester about 100 yards north of the Bushfield Camp roundabout.
There were no reports of any injuries and Winchester firefighters came to put out the flames.
Much of the front end of the Citroen was destroyed before the blaze was extinguished. Firefighters are now trying to uncover the cause.
St Cross Road was shut between the Bushfield Camp Roundabout and Five Bridges Road for nearly an hour.
There were also reports of minor delays to train services. It was because the car caught fire directly above the St Cross Tunnel on the Southampton to London railway line.
