A Hampshire man has written a book about Christ.
Former teacher Philip Oakeshott is behind The Man that Peter Knew - Historical Jesus according to Mark.
“I worked on the book for about 15 years. It explores the life of Christ as seen by Mark. There’s no big market for this sort of book but it’s something that I wanted to do and enjoyed doing. It can be ordered through Amazon,” said 81-year-old Philip, adding that he’s already thinking about his next book which will be based on Greek theatre and the Gospel of John.
Philip is a Quaker and he taught for 35years and is a former head of Thornden School at Chandler’s Ford.
He studied theology and modern languages before going into teaching.
Philip joined the Quakers in 1996 and he’s been attending the Society of Friends meetings in Southampton for almost 16 years.
And he was a Quaker chaplain with the Prison Service on the Isle of Wight.
“We don’t have priests or ministers. I have always been interested in Quakers,” said Philip, whose wife Rosemary is a bell-ringer at Romsey Abbey and St John’s Church in Lockerley. The couple have two grown-up daughters and one son.
