We raise our mugs to the people of Hampshire!
That is the message from fundraisers at a leading UK cancer charity after the county raised more than £250,000 by supporting its annual flagship |event.
Hampshire collected the cash after residents pulled together for Macmillan Cancer Support’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning.
Residents of Southampton led the way after raising £52,801 – £11,500 more than the city’s record.
And it was almost £40,000 more than the amount raised in neighbouring Portsmouth.
A total of 360 coffee mornings were hosted in Southampton, which helped boost the national total to a |record-breaking £10m.
Director of fundraising at Macmillan Cancer Support, Lynda Thomas, said: “I’d like to extend a huge thank you to our wonderful coffee morning hosts and guests who raised £10m for Macmillan Cancer Support.”
The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning 2012 will take place on Friday, September 28.
