POLICE investigating the shooting of a man in Southampton have revealed they have still not recovered the gun involved.

Detectives arrested two people, including a 15-year-old boy, during dawn raids this morning, as part of the operation following an incident in Townhill Park on Sunday evening.

The teenager, from Southampton, is now being held in custody, being questioned on suspicion of a section one firearms offence.

The other man, a 25-year-old from London, who was arrested outside Hampshire, has now been bought to the county and is being talked to by detectives on suspicion of attempted murder.

Several blocks of flats in the area between Vanguard Road, Witts Hill and Lytham Road are still sealed off as police comb the scene in the hunt for forensic evidence.

A force spokesman said the cordon is likely to remain in place for the rest of the day, and thanked residents for their cooperation.

He added that the firearm used in the attack, believed to be a handgun, has not yet been found.

He said: “The weapon is still outstanding.”

The 27-year-old victim remains in Southampton General Hospital recovering from injuries to his legs. His condition is not life threatening.

A 25-year-old man arrested on Sunday night and questioned on suspicion of attempted murder was yesterday released on police bail until tomorrow.
