Winchester cyclists are campaigning to keep an unofficial cycle route by the M3.
Winchester’s CTC (formerly Cyclist’s Touring Club), the national cyclists’ organisation, fear cyclists could soon face problems at junction nine of the M3/A34 at Winnall where the route provides a direct and safe route from Winchester to the Itchen Valley.
Hampshire County Council is proposing to create a third traffic lane which would potentially endanger cyclists, according to the CTC and branch secretary Sue Coles says these measures may prevent cyclists using the route.
“The problems are not insuperable but require the cyclists’ voice to be heard.”
