Police ask petrol stations to shut

Police ask all petrol stations to shut
Police in the south have asked petrol stations to shut temporarily to stop motorist panic buying fuel.
The action has been taken by Dorset Police as huge queues formed outside petrol stations across the county.
Hampshire police have said today they have not issued a similar warning.
Dorset motorists began queueing as early as 6am this morning as petrol panic seemed to be spreading.
There were long queues onto the road at garages in Christchurch and Bournemouth, with the Murco garage in the town's Southbourne Grove particularly busy.
Police arrived on the scene shortly after 8.30am in a bid to keep control of the situation.
They stopped drivers queuing in the way of traffic and tempers flared as some tried to cut the queue from the other side of the road.
This morning police have urged motorists not to panic buy fuel following reports of traffic congestion at petrol stations around the county.
Chief Inspector Nick Maton said: “There is no disruption to the fuel supply in the UK and members of the public should not panic buy.
“The actions of some motorists in queuing irresponsibly at petrol stations is causing danger to other road users.
“Police are taking action, requesting petrol stations to close temporarily in order to keep traffic flowing. “Once the queues have dispersed, the petrol stations may re-open for short periods.”

Why did this excuse for a Government do it ? ---simply to provoke public opinion against the tanker drivers, who have a legitimate right to seek better conditions and withdraw their labour if necessary.
The idea that the armed services can efficiently take over the delivery of fuel, other than to essential users such as hospitals, schools etc. is a Cameron pipe dream.

Well done police, instead of managing the situation you've merely inflamed it making people even more desperate to get hold of fuel! Utterly ridiculous.
I garages were like they used to be (ie) just sold fuel you wouldnt have all this grief, why is it ok to fill up and then do your weekly shop while your cars sat on the pump.
Bring back proper service where a somebody fills your car up then takes your cash at the pump.

Yet as I joined what started as a small queue, the Tesco employees started closing pumps as the fuel ran out at each pump. Each time they closed a lane, they just went back into the pay area and sat back down.
When I left the station, only what looked like 5 out of 12 pumps had any unleaded or diesel left. The queue was getting longer, and was almost onto the main road (about 20 car lengths away).
Why didn't the employees do something then? Cars were joining at the back that would probably never get any fuel, and these in turn were actually blocking shoppers from entering the car park.
The cars towards the back of the queue must have been scared that they were never going to get any fuel, and the honking of horns started as I left because people were cutting in by using another lane dedicated to entering the car park.
Why didnt the employees do something then? Could the manager not have made the decision to inform people the fuel was almost gone so they probably wouldnt get any, thus allowing shoppers to enter the car park.
I know you may say this would have caused panic, but I would prefer to be informed that I may not get any petrol so I could find fuel elsewhere. And surely the police telling stations in dorset to close has caused even more panic?

The Police only "asked" they actually have no right to force shut. If people want to buy fuel you cant stop them. How is the Governments fault? It's the Unions that are threatening action left right and center if it isnt the Sea City Museum it's the Olympics, or the fuel. It's cowardness and taking advantage. What next lets try and ruin the Queens Jubilee celebrations. If the Unions want us to go straight back into a recession and have people lose their jobs and livelyhoods then their going the right way about it.

Do you want a VAT receipt, and most infuriatingly, Do you want 2 x sweets for a pound?) It does my head in at the best of times, but when they can see queues forming why don't they use some common sense and get the customers through as quickly as possible? The Shell petrol station at Titchfield/Park Gate is right on the roundabout of the A27, there are queues forming there most days because there is usually just one person serving, and asking these inane questions. You can imagine the queues going actually onto the roundabout now because the staff are to scared to use some common dog and cease asking about 2 x sweets for a pound! They are afraid that someone will be checing on them, that they ask this drivel (akin to Asda staff saying 'sorry to keep you waiting' when they haven't kept you waiting at all). How long before there is an accident outside a Shell petrol station I wonder. Even when I say to them 'No sweets and no receipts, just petrol please', they reply 'we have to ask it's in our contract'. Shell will have blood on their hands before long. Idiots.
I had to fill up my car yesterday evening, as I only had 1/8 of my tank left. I decided on using my local Tesco in Shirley.

For all those judging the government just remember how bad the last fuel problem was which was a completely different government (the red clowns). They did little or nothing to help the average motorist and over the years hiked up fuel prices way beyond what is neccesary.

The Prime Minister made a mistake in advising people to top-up.
Unite has once again threatened to hold the country to ransom - but no surprise there, that's what they do for a 'living'. Cowards.
But the biggest mongs are those panic buying at the pumps - it makes a bad situation even worse. If only they had the grey cells to just think about it, ignore the Prime Minister's comment for the folly it was & the ransom demand from Unite, this could have been prevented.

Next week, hardly anyone will need to buy fuel ( except heavy users like myself, who uses a van around town everyday )
UNLESS those who have panic bought fuel, feel the need to drive around in circles to use it up.

Unions at it again, drivers earn £45,000 per year, that's a good wage, they should not be causing this stress. Labour/Unions will wreck this country, remember are car industry, now 90% overseas companies.
The Unions are NOT talking about striking for more money, but about conditions where they have to do deliveries within a certain period, regardless of traffic conditions, and doing quick turn-rounds.

I can only assume that it is part of the government's plan, to boost the building industry, by suggesting that we all have a jerry can of petrol stored in the garage. As for David Cameron's manipulating statement that people should top up their tanks - well, he thinks we're all stupid sheep and sadly many people seem to be proving him right! This idiotic panic buying by people who hardly ever use their cars will cause shortages and my anger is currently more to those people than the drivers talking about striking for health and safety reasons. There's not even a strike date set.

And don't give me the 'lack of regulation' ****, the Tories are al;l for tearing up every and any rule book they can find in favour of 'free enterprise'.TEBOURBA wrote: When George 4th is lampooning the last Labour Government he forgot to mention that Gordon Brown was also responsible for the financial meltdown in every country of the World, except perhaps China ; banks going bust in the home of capitalism the USA, house prices there dropping by 75% unemployment soaring, Greece, Italy, Spain , Portugal, Ireland, all close to going bust; even Dubai left with thousands of unsold luxury dwellings--- come on George you're letting Gordon off lightly, or is it perhaps not Gordon's fault at all but that of the greedy capitalist bankers worldwide, --- blinkered? --there's no so blind as those who will not see!Let's just take a couple of all your inaccuracies. Greece (should never have been allowed to join EU) - The Greek government (and previous Greek governments) brought down the country, and its banks along with it, due to its finances going back many years. Italy, like Greece, is in trouble because of long-term financial mismanagement (should never have been allowed to join EU) > With regard to our ex Chancellor and Prime Minister - Gordon Brown created the Biggest CREDIT BUBBLE ever and he created the Biggest PROPERTY BUBBLE ever - both BURST!! The consequence of which is a Massive Debt caused by spending money we didn't have and borrowing more money to spend!!!! P.S. Only 4 Banks needed help, out of over 500 in London!
.
You cant blame Black Wednesday on the Tories. Even Labour were in Favour of entering the sterling into the ERM. Also shows how well the economy recovered in a short space of time under the Tories until Labour got their grubby little hands on it in 1997.
It is the Tories that screwed up on Black Wednesday.
They did it all on their own.
They created their own crisis, while the rest of the world were going along quite nicely, thank you.

Drivers queuing for petrol during non strike should be issued with a numbered ticket IDIOT 1.2. 3 etc.
p.s. one week ago, two weeks ago and since the turn of the 21st century no doubt, people have queued for fuel. Just like people queue for food in the supermarkets during non strikes.

I don’t know about golden geese, except from the socialist fables, but I do know about the bees who make all the honey and the wasps who think honey should be shared with them.

As a pensioner who worked all his life and never had any hand-outs, I now find that the small bit of honey that I have worked for is being reduced so that millionaires can have a bit more, thanks to the top rate of tax being reduced.
Pity you don't know about the golden goose. I guess you must be a product of the Tory education system.

my neighbour is buying a car over 5 years and her fella drives it, neither work, but he is always out driving she even took her daughter out of school to go to the beach on wednesday, which i had an argument with her over it, but thats a different story, i think they should only let people have a limited amount that do not need petrol for work,
also people should not rely on their cars so much it is just lazy.
i think it was Cameron that start the petrol panic.
