Bar staff have told how they battled to save a man who stumbled into their pub after being stabbed with three others in Southampton city centre.

Police are today continuing to question a teenager after the four men suffered knife wounds.

The 19-year-old is being held after the incident at a house in Cranbury Avenue.

Staff at a nearby pub came to the aid of one of the injured who they say had suffered a “horrendous” stab wound.

Two other men were found injured by police at the property late on Tuesday night – one with an Stomach wound and one with a hand injury.

Another man was discovered at the nearby Royal South Hants Hospital, having been dropped off for treatment for a minor hand injury.

The 17-year-old entered The Alexandra pub in Belle Vue Road as staff were closing up and told them he had been stabbed and needed an ambulance.

One staff member, who did not want to be named, told the Daily Echo how regulars helped to treat the youngster, who had a large wound from his wrist to the crook of his elbow.

He said: “This guy came in and just said he’d been stabbed and asked us to call the ambulance.

“It looked like he had been dumped outside. He had this horrible wound on his arm– it was horrendous.

“A paramedic was here in about two or three minutes.

“The regulars did a brilliant job and everyone just kept their cool and helped out.

“He was a brave lad – he lost so much blood.”

The teenager and the two men found in Cranbury Avenue were still in hospital last night being treated for their injuries.

Police say none of the stab wounds are life threatening.

A 19-year-old man from London has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and remained in police custody last night.

Cranbury Avenue was largely cordoned off by officers yesterday, with residents having to give their details as they arrived at and left their homes.

Anyone with information should call Southampton Police on 101, quoting Operation Nightingale, or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
