HAMPSHIRE sweltered this week with the highest May temperatures in decades recorded in Southampton – but forecasters say the blue skies will give way to unsettled weather from tomorrow.

The Met Office says the next few days will be cooler than the scorching highs of Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, which saw the mercury soaring to up to 26C in parts of inland Hampshire.

Forecasters predict temperatures today will reach about 24C inland with winds pegging the temperatures at 22C on the coast.

But tomorrow the clear blue skies will give way to cloud and possible showers later on in the afternoon.

Monday will be dry and cloudy, with temperatures in the late teens and early 20s.

Met Office spokesman Dan Williams said this was still hotter than normal.

He said: “It is very warm for the time of year because we have had warm air from the Eastern and Southern continent.”
