Postal service's first class delivery Postal service's first class delivery

POSTAL services in Hampshire are beating Royal Mail targets.

New research shows that in the “SO” postcode area, 93.4 per cent of first-class post was delivered the next day during the last financial year.

In the “PO” area, which covers Fareham and Gosport, 93.9 per cent of first-class mail was delivered the next day during the same period.

Both results are ahead of the national target, which is 93 per cent.

Royal Mail says new technology and better equipment and working practices are speeding up deliveries.

Operations director Geoff Braden said: “Royal Mail’s target for next-day delivery of first-class mail is one of the highest and most challenging next-day performance targets in Europe.

“It’s down to our local management and postmen and women who are determined to deliver the best possible service to our customers.”

Who are they kidding.

My post is regularly late. and on occasion it looks like several days worth have been allowed to accumulate and then its all delivered at once.

I live in the SO area and Royal Mail claims cannot be true. For several weeks I didn't receive any mail, but knew of around 20 items that should have arrived during that time. When I complained many of these items miraculously appeared through my letterbox within 48 hours. Royal Mail say that this is a coincidence, but I have reason to believe otherwise .. and I am still waiting for other items to arrive including one that was posted first class on 26th April!

My post is always on time. Ergo, you must be wrong.

Or, alternatively, it's impossible to extrapolate how the service is performing, on the experiences of a single customer.
